Traveling can be intimidating, but as overwhelming as it may be, it is that much more rewarding. My best advice is to book your travel around your flights and not the other way around. If you have flexibility, you can find great deals for the trip of a lifetime.

A flat illustration shows a person sitting on the ground next to a large calendar. Some dates on the calendar are marked with orange checkmarks and an orange 'X'. To the left of the calendar, there's a yellow backpack and a clock with orange hands. Light blue abstract shapes and leaves are in the background, along with a few clouds.

Best Days of the Week to Buy Flights

The best time of the week has historically been to book flights on the weekend. You can set alerts to find the best price for flights on any day of the week. That being said, the best days of the week for a trip are Thursday till Sunday. This doesn't always align with the best prices on hotels and stays, but factoring in flights and hotels can often get you the best vacation. Another notable trend is that a week-long trip can be an excellent option for lower-cost flights.

Best Time of Day for Flights

Suppose you want to avoid delays and have the best travel day, fly in the morning. It is best to get the flight before the delays are compounded throughout the day. It is also the best time to get through the airport without any issues. In the middle of the day, it can take hours to get through security. The later you go in the day, the higher the price.

A flat illustration shows two men sitting on airport-style yellow benches. The man on the left has dark skin, is wearing sunglasses, a light green top, and red pants, and is looking up and to the right. The man on the right has light skin, is wearing glasses, a blue long-sleeved shirt, and tan pants, and is looking down at a phone in his hands. A grey and red suitcase is next to him. The background is white.

Airport Layovers

When looking for flights, don't go straight for a direct flight. Many airlines offer discounts for adding a layover to your flights. Many airlines even offer multiple-day layovers in other countries. This will give you the chance to take vacations in one, but you will pay less for the flight. Layovers also allow for a traveler to rest during travel. A person can grab a quick bite or buy a gift while waiting.

Book Flights in Advance

It is important to plan ahead. There is a sweet spot to book your trip ahead of time, at least two to three months. Any closer and you can be faced with higher prices. It is always nice to plan ahead to ensure that you are able to get into the attractions that you want to see, get the best rooms at the hotels and find the optimal flights that you are looking for.

Traveling can be challenging for everyone, even a seasoned traveler. However, it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. It is important to remember that saving money can be done in small ways. If you're ready to book your next flight adventure, schedule a consult today.
