Costa Rica may be small on a map, but the culture is massive. This country offers tourists beautiful beaches and spectacular rainforests. It is the ideal vacation for anyone that enjoys plunging themselves in local traditions and activities. While there are many places to visit in Costa Rica, it is essential to start in paradise.

A vibrant, large "JACO" sign stands overlooking a blue ocean with a distant coastline under a partly cloudy sky. The red 'J' has a toucan on top, the green 'A' and yellow 'C' each have a monkey clinging to them, and the blue 'O' with "Costa Rica" written on it is topped by a macaw. A white railing separates the sign from the water.

One place that the locals think of as paradise is Jaco. With miles of beautiful black sand beaches, roaring blue waters, and a line of thriving palm trees, it is the ideal place to experience “Pura Vita,” or Costa Rican Pure Life. Jaco is located just over an hour west of the capital city, San Jose. It is the closest beachfront town to the San Jose International airport. The wonderful beach town is lined with affordable hotels, tasty restaurants, and plenty of swimming pools. This small beach town is the perfect place to relax.

Along the coastline, there's a dense line of green palm trees and lush vegetation, interspersed with buildings, including several multi-story hotels and residences. In the background, rolling green hills and mountains rise under a bright sky. A large palm frond is visible in the bottom left corner, partially obscuring the view.

Once you are ready to hit the beach, you can enjoy one of the many sun chairs that are available. After sun tanning, you can hit the water and learn how to surf like a pro. Jaco is home to more than ten accredited surf shops, such as LimeCoral and The Channel Islands Surf shop. These surf shops offer lessons, surfboard rental, and affordable surf gear. The instructors can easily be found wandering around the beach because surf shops are located beachfront in the sand. Make sure to pay attention to the sand as you walk; it is a great place to find sea glass and fossils.

Each box has a domed lid decorated with colorful, hand-painted designs, including images of sea turtles, frogs, flowers, and palm trees, often with "Costa Rica" written on them. In the top left corner, colorful woven bracelets or similar items are visible, hanging in the background.

Once you have mastered the “hang ten,” you can spend the night wandering about the strip. An area that is full of great local shops where you can pick up souvenirs for your entire family. These small shops offer anything you may want, including magnets, T-shirts, stickers, and more. However, there are also original jewelers, tattoo shops, and pharmacies. Each shop is unique. Plus, the city is known for its incredible nightlife.

Costa Rica is an excellent destination for the first-time or seasoned traveler, and Jaco could be one of many stops on your vacation. Schedule a consultation to find out about more fantastic places and activities in this small but mighty country.
